This bibliography describes resources to help understand the medical and surgical needs for transsexuals.

The section of the DSM-VI covering the diagnosis of Gender Identity Disorder, the diagnosis for transsexualism.
The Harry Benjamin Standards of Care. These are the rules and procedures that all transsexuals must follow in order to be diagnosed, transition, and be authorized for medical treatments.
Medicare Application An application has been made to request coverage under US Medicare. This site gives much detail and argues why it should be covered.
The Gender Reassignment Center of Montreal This is the web site of one surgical clinic. Included on the site are the requirements for acceptance into the program (e.g. SRS is not "surgery on demand", but the Harry Benjamin SOC must be followed) and a cost sheet showing example charges for various procedures.
SRS Procedures There is no surgical procedure called "transsexual surgery." There are many different procedures that are often performed when a diagnosis of Gender Identity Disorder (transsexualism) is made and the SOC are followed. Most of these procedures are also performed for other diagnoses, and would be covered for those diagnoses.

International Foundation for Gender Education This is an umbrella group with contacts, publications, and a bookstore.
The International Journal of Transgenderism an online journal which has articles about surgery.
